TORTURE in the name of BEAUTY

heheh.
went for a "trial session" at London Weight Management yesterday after wrk.... my colleague Shamini convinced me to tag along with her....

And since the so called 1st time trial session costed $10, i thought there was no harm in going....

The place was in Bugis BHG (why the hell do they hv a slimming centre inside a clothes department store).

I thought at first that I would be paying $10 for just a consultancy.... where the person will advice Shamini and I abt our weight management and then discuss with Shamini what kind of slimming packages she can buy.

Turned out the consultancy part wasn't even half of it. They gave a free trial of their "Lavender Scrub" which, the consultant said, was for kg loss.

Firstly, we were brought to a room and told to take off ALL our clothes (yikes, not what i expected) and put on a pair of paper underwear and a robe

Then we were brought to take our weight (mine was 64kg... yay for losing arnd 4kg since the last time i weighed).

The skinny flat-chested china girl said: ur ideal weight is 48.6kg ...

Pui Pui!!!
Like real sia.... a 1.62m tall girl weighing 48.6kg? Not if she WANTS to hv boobs and an ass!!!
Does she take me for an idiot? I know my BMI and my ideal weight is somewhere around 52kg~~

If i weigh 48.6kg... I'd probably become an A-cup... and my hip bones would be sticking out in sharp angles (gee, thx alot for the big bones, mum)

Just trust it to the money-eating ppl to tell u how much u shld weigh....

Anyways, she then brought us to a steam bath... where we had to sit inside for 5-15 min to "open up our pores" so that the scrub would be effective.

Felt like a chinese dim-sum in a steaming basket... shrimp dumpling... siew mai... lor mai kai... xiao-long-bao.... steamed-egg... LOLS. (Shamini: gee thx, jac. now i feel like an egg.)

After the steam bath we were brought into a room individually and told to take off our robes (small towel covering only!!! AAAAARGH)
then the poor consultant came to measure me... lets just say that when i warned her i was ticklish it was an understatement.... she even complained to Shamini after measuring me that i was VERY VERY JUMPY

Next came the scrub.... naturally i nearly shrieked when the girl tried to rub me >_<>

My ass started feeling the burning... then after that my whole body was so hot that i started to sweat.... according to the girl, the fat was being broken down into water and then it would start being sweated out.....

I literally felt the sweat dripping off my body in tiny rivulets.... horror of horrors.... so that's what its like being baked slowly but surely.

Just as I was sure I was gonna die, the girl came in and "unwrapped" me....

After sitting there for 5 minutes, was finally ushered into the bath to wash off the scrub... which was so itchy i rinsed with soap 3 times...

Then we were served a disgusting protein shake which the girl insisted i had to finish... and it gave me a stomachache after that.

The girl gave Shamini a summary of the packages they had... which were EXPENSIVE. for 5 of their (torturing) steam bath, lavender scrub and whatever-wrap, they charge like... $1.5k...

Thankfully the consultant didn't waste time trying to preach her slaes routine to me... I guess she realised that i would much rather run 20 miles a wk than go let ppl rub me while i'm 90% naked.... LOLs...

and she probably didnt want to touch me again after all my touchiness either.

How the hell could women bear spending $1500 for 5 sessions of weekly torturing (steaming, wrapping, baking, getting measured, drinking disgusting sloshy protein shake) instead of exercising? I will NEVER figure it out.

Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox

The 6th book of the Artemis Fowl series was just released...

Went to Popular to buy the book and the auntie said they were temporarily sold out. O_O made me think wow.

So i downloaded a copy of the book that some kind soul scanned and put online.

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT

As the storyline progressed, I kept thinking WTF. If not for the fact that I read an excerpt on the official Artemis Fowl website earlier and saw that part in the book, I might have thought I was getting totally SUCKERED by someone who wrote a fake version and posted it online.

Firstly, the storyline hardly progressed at all. I understand that there was a big leap in plot since Arty disappeared for 3 yrs while in Limbo, and that during that time he got a new pair of twin siblings, but not only has the humour almost disappeared and Arty has mellowed so much that he just isn't the exciting criminal mastermind anymore.....

BUT come'on! Butler NOT going with him into his newest adventure???? That's really too much. Not to mention the fact that I was going all-out with the idea that Arty's finally met a GIRL who's every bit as genius as him. And not to mention Minerva likes him too.

And what happens? Holly Short the 100+ yr old elf who's supposed to be good buddies with him goes all teenager after time-travelling and kisses him. YUCKS! YUCKS YUCKS YUCKS YUCKS! A century old elf and a 14 yr old boy? I think not!

Not to mention that this time around the story jumps into the adventure all too quickly. I just don't see the plot unfolding. First Arty's mother gets sick and they immediately jump into the past to find her antidote. What happened to using your brain and thinking of a solution first?

Every book has a miraculous Artemis Fowl come-back. Arty's trump-card was just simply TOO BORING. Not to mention... HELLO? ANOTHER SAME-OLD VILLAIN????? Isn't Opal Koboi coming back waaaaaay too many times?

1st book villain: Artemis himself! yay!
2nd book villain: Opal Koboi (and Artemis Senior's kidnappers)
3rd book villain: Jon Spiro
4th book villain: Opal Koboi (escaped from prison)
5th book villain: Demons from Limbo!
6th book villain: Opal Koboi (time-travelling to crush Artemis again)

It's getting abit boring, Eoin Colfer. Admit it. Not to mention that she gets away YET AGAIN at the end of the 6th book. Yikes. Do the readers hv to read abt Koboi's megalomania some more?

Worklife...

is surprisingly not as boring as I expected... Mostly because of my boss i suppose. haha.

To describe my boss Anne, all you need is one word, yet if you wanna describe the things she does, there is a seemingly endless list.

Since she is on leave todae (and the other colleagues aren't giving me much work) i have the time to collate my seemingly endless list i suppose...

The one word is... Chatty. lols.

She is talkative, loves her dog alot (is it juz me or is it the lonely old spinster type of women who love their dog like they would love a man or a child), and she is PERVERTED!

She talks abt which guys' asses are smooth, how she hates attending gala dinners coz the designers are all gay, and changes the topics abruptly from eating lunch to farting....
And it gets worse... haha...

and for someone who used to work big-time in mediacorp she doesnt know what R21 is...

I guess in the mind of a pervy woman, ratings do not exist.

The male colleagues (yes, all the other colleagues in my corner of the department are males. the rest are at the other side of our office) are starting to warn her not to be a bad influence on me (20 yr old cannot teach R21 lar!!!)

But of course, after awhile she goes right back and starts again... lol.

Life has become abit monotonous... work work work... take bus (1 hr) bath eat sleep.... work work work...

then abit of shopping ... bought a dark brown tube dress at the This Fashion at Peninsula Plaza, just outside Funan Mall... $15 yay

then went for window shopping during lunch break with Shamini (indian colleague) at clark quay central... saw alot of nice dresses, but most were EXPENSIVE =(

~~~
The teaser trailer for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has been released! i pity the company that's in charge of the official release for the trailer.... the trailer appeared on msn.com 1 hr b4 the official release time~~
Hvn't watched the trailer yet... cant watch it on my company's com...
The news has also been out: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be split into 2 movies!!! It will be released late 2009 and early 2010!!! Finally they realise that their movies need more time~~~
Here's the trailer:
not exactly as gd as i would've hoped.... a teaser's supposed to be exciting! For one thing, Dumbledore wasn't exactly as intense as I hoped he would be (i hv a natural bias against him since the first actor of Dumbledore died) and of course Harry,who's staying in the movies just for the sake of staying.... leaves alot to be desired. As for the young Marvolo, perhaps it's a little too early to judge him yet.
Sigh....
1st Day of Work
What's up So Far:
~ The person from the IT department is busy configuring other ppl's desktop and mine is halfway connected to the company's network
~ My supervisor's gone for 2 meetings so far and I'm currently the only person sitting in my department.
~ I can't even login to our company website
~ I have no idea how to use LotusNotes yet.
~ I finally hv access to the Internet..
~ I am NOT allowed to chat on MSN. But we shall see about dat... heheh >_< ~ I have been coerced into signing a confidentiality form... ~ One of my ex-classmate's is now my new colleague! Sabby from RP... sigh. at least she's nice, even though she hung out with certain ppl back then... bet 3/4 of my ex-classmates have received the gossips At least I can browse the Internet a little... saw something damn exciting... http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/twilight_movie.html
My current craze author has her 1st book made into a movie!!! It's already in post-production... yay. $37 million was spent on making it. So far, she's released 3 books out of 4 of her Twilight series. Hope the movie will be every bit as romantic, thrilling, witty and INTENSE as the books are... i already like the main actresses and actors acting in it... Hope they will portray the sexy Cullen family vampires properly!!!
The 4th and last book for the series will be coming out on the 4th Aug... maybe i will go queue for the book at Popular ^^ been a long time since i queued for a book release (Since book 7 of Harry Potter series, to be exact)
The Teaser Trailer of Twilight. Watch Edward.... his acting is INTENSE!!!!! I think he can portray Edward pretty well.... needs to be a little more inhuman in his movements, though. Still, eye-candy!!! >_<
Whole day out
Finally.... the good news.
Starting work next Monday, 21st July! Huzzah huzzah!!!
Woke up at 7.30am... been a long time since i did that.
Went for interview yesterday morning 10am at the MICA building... a much nicer and cosier looking workplace than all the other places I visited before. Naturally, being the office HQ for Singapore Arts Council, MOSAIC gallery, etc all the arts societies of Singapore, the place was more artfully designed than those dead looking company buildings that only sported grey, black, brown and white =.='''
The entrance still had the sign that said Hill Street Police Station, but i thought the old building suited my taste more... it made me feel less... out of place and younger... haha. Entering the place, i immediately saw a few art sculptures, and a filming crew shooting the statue. Their equipment were so much smaller and expensive looking than the kind that my school used to rent out to us for our projects.
Went to the 5th floor; the Ministry of Information, Communication and the Arts. Quite a mouthful, so it's shortened into MICA.
The interview room was a freaking huge conference room. The 2 women interviewing me immed. said: dun b intimidated... haha. Gave me the feeling that they weren't the zombie-type immediately. Wat a relief.
The interview went fine... then i recognised one of the women interviewing me. Should've known.
Saw her on TV b4. She told me she was ex-mediacorp. And she was gonna be my boss. Ah, well.
Could tell that they were the hyper type of ppl... yay. No zombies there.
So... passed the interview rather quickly. Must b bcoz I studied something similar to the company's job scope in poly. Who knew... poly experience actually came in useful... despite how lousy my sch was.
Then went to Causeway Point to watch Batman: The Dark Knight.
The movie was quite excellent.
But no comedy in there.
Was a little saddening too... The woman Bruce Wayne loved died.
The Joker and the Trickster appeared in the movie. Trickster died. Of course, Joker didn't, coz there'd be no arch-enemy if he did. But the actor who acted as the Joker is already dead... so...
From the way the movie ended, there's a possibility that there might not be another sequel made.
The coolest thing in the movie by far:
The humungous bat-bike. The bat-mobile broke down... then it ejected this bike... with 2 guns at the front... lol.
Then after the movie my bro and i went to the Recruit Agency at Raffles Place so that I could sign my final documents and get my time-sheet for the job. Went through a few final details...
  • $7/hr, 1.5x for OT hrs and Saturdays, 2x for Sundays and PH
  • Payroll processed by Recruit Express on the 15th and 30/31st mthly...
  • Certain rules...
  • Contract ends on 19th Dec, maybe then i can sign another contract or change to perm staff
Then miracles of miracles. My bro blanjah... We went to vivocity (coz we were bored and didn't know where else to go) Had a chocolate fondue at Haagen Daaz.. the price was staggering... considering the comparison with Andersens and Swensens... the bill came out as $51.60... But my brother has always been known to spend money on chocolates... so not such a huge surprise there, lol. My fav part of the fondue was the pieces of pound cake dipped in chocolate... Sigh... the rich taste of pound cake with chocolate was heaven.
Spotted a black bangle-watch with rhinestones. Something new on my wishlist.
kinda miss singing
Went KTV PartyWorld with Sea-shell n Mr.K on Wed evening... with 3 ppl finally the 3 of us had our share of singing time... haha! gd to sing without other ppl suddenly snatching up the mic and defacing ur fav song suddenly...
Went crazy on F.I.R songs... (just about the only chinese band i really like) am glad to say i didn't totally destroy the wonderful female lead's singing... couldn't hit some of the crazy whistle-register notes.. but at least i didn't shriek and fail loudly in the mic... sang abt 5 or 6 of F.I.R songs at one go... those high-pitch songs can really take the mickey out of anyone >_<
Most importantly, it made me miss my a-cappella singing back in poly... even though not all the songs were wonderful (Christmas carolling = 5 mths of crooning Santa Clause is coming to town). Had alot of fun and performances... even though we didn't earn much.
Recalled the time we had an acappella performance in a wedding church.... This crazy ang-moh couple wanted a simple wedding at a tiny tiny church... we all had only 3 wks to prepare the song to sing... sang Truly,Madly,Deeply gospel style sia. The whole thing was fun and even though we screwed up the song (thx Ronny) the couple were so happy they gave us an extra $300 angbao (which was divided amongst 20 ppl and disappeared into a tiny tiny amount).
Most of all the singing i miss... other than those crazy bunch of pals; PK n Rafie the jokers, Cindy n Beverly the ti-ko-girls(my mum was the one who nicknamed them), and the others.
Maybe shld sing more often... realised that my singing range has really gone down the drain... Angie'd kill me if she heard my singing now... notes that were much easier are now so much harder to hit... my medium range suffered the most... sigh... can't believe i actually thought of going professional. Mum would've probably murdered me if i ever suggested it anyway. Not easy to start an acappella group in Singapore too.
I'd need:
~to be able to read tadpoles (my piano experience is limited to playing Mary had a Little Lamb)
~a good vocal percussionist
~a good leader
~a good bass singer who has a proper sense of rhythm
~a good band name
~someone to sponsor and endorse us... and to sign us up as an official group under The Singapore Acappella Society
I'd probably end up becoming manager cum member... hv to organise everything... I'd die of exhaustion. Best keep singing as a hobby ^^ that way can enjoy and dun hv to meet nasty ppl
Update....
Been told to update my bloggie... hahas. hvn't blogged for a pretty long time.
Been up to nth much. Slacking at home and job-hunting. Watching movies online and reading my beloved books.
Went to the stupid infamous Recruit Agency yesterday. Applied for a temp/contract bank position, then that Veron said that she had other positions and asked me if i was interested... then she would send the company my resume....
Whole lot of help sia. Like i dunno how to use email... wat kind of agency is this. Ever since yesterday call me 4 times asking me whether i was interested in this job, that job, blah blah blahs.
Also went to IMM ytd with Ba0-bei... she called after i got home from the stinking so-called "interview" and then asked me if i wanted to go out... Went to IMM and had an Andersen's Ice-Cream Fondue. the fondue was too sweet... and the fruits were sour. The strawberries sucked and the banana.... well, lets just say we had to ask the waitress to change the fruit. The 5 scoops of ice-cream that came with the fondue was not dat gd either.
Then we went to Daiso for some aimless browsing. Bought a double-pronged hairpin... can't believe they sell the pin for 2 bucks when places like Aries sold them for like 7-8 bucks. The pin was ok looking... white and pink beads... and this ugly furball on it... but hey. 2 bucks... i just had to pluck off the stupid furball rite?
Also bought a japanese-style bamboo blind. The Japanese use this as window-blinds... but Bao-bei and me definitely had a different usage for it... haha.
Ta-daa.
(added the pic finally)
realised that i hv a grand total of 33 pairs of earrings... excluding a few pairs that are missing its twin... my mum's gonna nag when she sees that my collection has increased yet again!
